Scale Generative AI with Amazon Bedrock & MCP Servers

Amazon Bedrock and Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) are revolutionizing enterprise AI. This solution addresses the challenges of managing multiple, siloed AI tools by creating a centralized MCP server hub. The hub, built on Amazon Bedrock, provides a standardized way for agentic applications (AI agents) to access various enterprise tools and APIs, eliminating duplication and improving efficiency. Large organizations, particularly in finance, with complex data governance needs, benefit greatly. The architecture uses AWS services like Amazon ECS on Fargate for scalability and resilience, DynamoDB for a tool registry, and PrivateLink for enhanced security. Agentic applications, built using Amazon Bedrock Agents or the AWS Strands Agents SDK, connect to the central hub via a load balancer. The hub then directs requests to the appropriate MCP server, which in turn interacts with the necessary tools. A key feature is the MCP server discovery API, allowing agentic applications to identify available servers and their functionalities. This centralized approach offers significant benefits: improved scalability, enhanced security through network controls and isolated environments, and reduced operational overhead. The solution is demonstrated through a financial services use case focusing on post-trade execution, where different lines of business (LoBs) have their own MCP servers, but all are accessible centrally. While the solution showcases benefits, potential drawbacks could include the need for additional security layers to manage user-level access control (currently not a built-in MCP feature), and the complexity of setting up the initial infrastructure. Compared to a decentralized approach, this solution offers significant gains in efficiency and control, enabling faster AI agent development and deployment.
